Three cheers for silchar Thumpers, motorcycle stories with Rajat,

Way back from Mizoram

We are at Kolasib, at a government guesthouse (a little on the expensive side) but looking at the condition of the hotel who really cares.. we had running hot water and thats what matters when the temperature outside is 10 degrees!!

We head out at 0600 hours and had a false start, as my riding partner had gone off in a different direction and me in another. But eventually all was well as we meet up and headed towards Shillong. Today we plan to reach and stay in Shillong and meet our local friends.
A another friend has a hotel in Shillong and he invited me to visit it.. Sounded like a plan and i was more than excited to meet him there.
50 km and few hours of wonderful ride later, mybike stalled as I stopped to take a few images of the river of cloud.

The scenery that we crossed were amazing along the way

I realized petrol was leaking from my bike, and another 60 km later I realized fuel was flowing too fast and there was no way I could make it to Silchar which was only 30 km away. Thankfully we had crossed the twisty roads on the hills and were on plain ground and the bike had to be towed to the RE workshop which was on the highway. We made our way there and felt relieved that we had made it.

The split fuel pipe connection

Some folks used to stealing fuel for fun or poverty reason do not know that in BS4 complaint EFI does not let fuel be stolen unless engine is on, sometimes leading to fuel pump's damage, and this is a weak point of these system of bikes.

But what do you know, real grief was to start now, as there was no fuel pump in stock, and neither were they very interested in solving our issue!

Internal politics and mismanagement was what followed..(there was no manager in the shop) After
Making many calls and many hours later (we had reached the workshop at 10 am) and it was 1500 hours before they figured out that there was a fuel pump in Aizawl which was 172 km away of mountain roads. It takes 6 hours to drive, and it could be brought to the workshop only next morning at 0800 hours!
Well, giving them a go ahead we retired to find a hotel and relax, and a few hours later we get another call from the Royal Enfiled Silchar workshop stating that the part will start from Aizawl at 0600 hours and might reach the workshop at 1300 hours next day. Effectively we would be staying another day in silchar, as bike wont get fixed till 1500 hours.
Arguments do not get one anywhere so decided to head out and look for local stores and serendipity....

Bike awaiting fix

We came across “ Bike point” a few km from our hotel!! As we narrated our tale of woes to the owner of the store, there is a member of Silchar thumpers who also came along and listen to us, His name is Gopesh Saha -the good Samaritan after listening to our concern started looking for a Silachar thumper who has a bike with a fuel pump similar to mine and was  willing to surrender his fuel pump for a fellow rider (me), stuck, because Royal Enfield lets the dealer run stores with minimum spares.

One of the club members who had a bike which is only 2 months old was willing to do the honor and offered to let me have the needed part “ the fuel pump” from his bike, just so we could get on with our journey. He got his bike to “ BIKE POINT” and had the fuel pump removed and handed it over to me, we were back at the Royal Enfield workshop at 2100 hours with the fuel pump and managed to install it on my bike. how amazing was it that what royal Enfield should have been doing was done by a complete stranger to help a fellow rider get on with his ride!
Prakash patel from Ahmedabad, Gopesh from silchar thumper, Bablu from bike point at RE workshop at 2200 hours.

I tell you there are great people out there, who are willing to help if only we ask, if only we are open to asking and opening our self too receiving

Three cheers for silchar thumpers I say.

and we are off the next day to find more adventure,,, and meet more wonderful humans.
