11th October 2022
Up at the crack of dawn, actually more like am up at 0530 hours, its still dark outside, we planned to depart by 0625
Morning rituals done, we
actually are able to leave by 0631, impressed with myself and so happy was we that
we were on the wrong road leaving town of Jamshedpur,
GPS kept rerouting and watching it happen 3 – 4 times I realized we were headed to Kolkata which is due East of Jamshedpur
And not the direction we wanted to go, we corrected course and headed due west towards Chandil, Tamar and so on,,,
The roads were good and 4 lane highway till Tamar made sure we made good time, we had done a brisk pace of almost 60 km approx. before we turned to state highway, and stayed on State highway for most part of the journey.
We stopped at Khuti for breakfast, Aloo Paratha made into rolls we were carrying and sure tasted good ( thank yu Ruma my cook and Mom for organizing the food ) the 30 minutes stop later we were once again on the way via
Simdega – kutra –
Once we left Kutra 30 km later we were on Rourkela – Sambalpur SH , which was 4 lane, it had 2 tolls , Rs 90 and Rs 55, and no fasttag, Strange but was not in a mood to argue I was enjoying the drive,
Feeling a little sleepy once I was on the highway for a while, we did pull over and took a 30-minute nap, before we headed off for Sambalpur, we crossed jharsuguda – telkoloi – bamloi – to reach sambalpur.
We reached approx. 1440 hours; it was 8 hours since we started, being the first day of a 12 day trip we wanted to pace ourself as best as we could and had lunch at Sambalpur, panht Nivas.
We met up with a friend Karunakar Satpathy, we spend a few hours together, tea and coffee( sure healped me become more bright and chirpy and fresh enough to roam around Sambalpur
Don’t get too excited we all are tea Tetaller here and it is tea in the glass for sure .
Visited the Sambheleshwari temple.
Ma Sambheleshwari is worshipped along wester Orissa and right upto Chattisgarh, and this temple is one of the Shakti peeth of Orissa. Situated on the bank of river Mahanadi Mother goddess here is worshipped as mother of Universe, we were honored to be in her presence and having an opportunity to have a darshan too.

We were invited for dinner and had dinner at Mr. Satpathy’s house, we spend time with his family and a wonderful meal cooked by his wife, who is a Sanskrit teacher, In spite of being a vegetarian she had cooked chicken for us, and it sure was tasty.
we did not want to stay out too late and called it a day at 2145 hours. Heading back to our hotel.
Tommorow we will explore Sambalpur.
