The Queen
We started the day driving in
the foggy morning, to Patamda, a place 20 km from the city of Jamshedpur,
The feel of the place was more of hill station then plain land that we are at, and what do we have here, ?
Date palm trees with pots tied to them just under the leaf.
We saw the Date palm tree's with there juice being extracted into pots, these pots are tied to the trees and left overnight to get the juice from these Date palm trees,
and come morning it is carried to metal pans which are used to make jaggery.
The process:
1. Jaggery making is quiet a simple process
2. Get the syrup, (here we are using date palm)
3. Boil it in shallow iron pans
4. Boil it till it gets concentrated, then you cool and solidify.
The people who make this
Jaggery are from Bankura district of West Bengal and come to Jharkhand to make
the jaggery. The men live together and cook there own food, spending there day making jaggery all day.
Driving along the roads from Patamda to Jamshedpur you are likely to come across these signs which tell you can get the fresh jaggery right from the source.
Best to carry your own bottle to purchase the Jaggery( gur)
Priced approx. at 120 – 140 a kg, but I would suggest you get them to weight it right in front of you, or you could get swindled (from experience)
We stopped along the way for a cup of tea and also bought some pickle from this store, which was just amazing in taste.
we did stop by Dimna lake on the way back, and were back in town in 2 hours round trip.
fantastic as well
